Creator of NRMA Named to the National Retail Federation's Ring of Excellence

Chapin, S.C. – Robert “Bob” Ralicki, the creator of General Information Service, Inc.’s (GIS) National Retail Mutual Association (NRMA), was named to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Ring of Excellence on June 24, 2008.

The award, which comes posthumously for Ralicki, recognizes loss prevention professionals whose achievements and outstanding leadership have significantly shaped the industry. Ralicki’s main accomplishment was bringing together many regional retail theft databases to serve retail loss prevention efforts.

Ralicki was with GIS when he died suddenly in 2005. Before his untimely death, he had created and developed NRMA, a nationwide theft database for exclusive use by the retail industry. Prior to his tenure at GIS, Ralicki created the United States Mutual Association (USMA), a mutually shared theft database.

NRMA is notably different from other databases similar to it because it verifies all incidents before allowing them to be disseminated and requires retailers to submit data if they wish to use the database. In addition, company policy violations such as “theft of time” are excluded.

Ralicki was one of six people honored for contributions of lasting value, development of original ideas/techniques, notable leadership and outstanding service to organizations serving the retail industry.
